Name
Keynote sponsored by McGraw Hill "Making Learning Irrestistable" with Dr. Raj Shah
Date & Time
Thursday, December 1, 2022, 8:45 AM - 10:00 AM
Description

We will explore why students lose interest in learning and how we can spark curiosity to increase engagement. In addition, we will explore the key requirements to crafting lessons that encourage productive struggle.

What can educators learn from video game designers? Every child knows how to persevere, but many are inhibited by the fear and anxiety of getting wrong answers and in turn getting bad grades. By using the same psychology that video game designers use to make games addictive, teachers can pique student curiosity, help them embrace challenges, and encourage productive struggle even when they have not yet mastered the content yet. Dr. Shah will share five principles to make learning as irresistible as video games in a natural way. The keynote will also address how leaders can support teachers to implement these strategies. While these five principles are universal to all disciplines, the examples and activities will focus on mathematics.
